Policies & Code of Conduct

IndigiPopX Code of Conduct

IndigiPopX is a celebration of Indigenous pop culture, storytelling, art, and community. We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for everyone. By attending IndigiPopX, you agree to respect others, follow this Code of Conduct, and comply with all applicable laws and local ordinances.

This Code of Conduct applies to all attendees, artists, exhibitors, vendors, volunteers, guests, staff, and partners.

General Expectations

  • Treat all people with respect, kindness, and consideration.

  • Follow instructions from event staff and security.

  • Wear appropriate clothing; IndigiPopX is a family-friendly event.

  • Disruptive, destructive, or unsafe behavior is prohibited.

  • No solicitation, distribution of unauthorized materials, or loitering.

  • No open alcoholic beverages outside designated areas.

  • No smoking, vaping, or tobacco use except in designated areas.

  • No pets, except trained service animals.

  • Respect event spaces, property, and the cultural significance of our gathering.

Cultural Sensitivity Policy

IndigiPopX is a positive, intergenerational, family-oriented event that celebrates Indigenous pop culture.

  • Respect Tribal Regalia: Tribal regalia is not cosplay. Please do not wear regalia unless it is your own or you have permission from your community.

  • Cosplay vs. Cultural Appropriation: Costumes inspired by Indigenous cultures must be respectful. If your cosplay is considered offensive, harmful, or culturally inappropriate, you may be asked to change or leave.

  • Vendors and Sales: All vendors must comply with the Indian Arts and Crafts Act of 1990 (IACA). Only enrolled citizens of federally or state-recognized tribes may market their work as “Native-made” or “Indian-made.” Questions regarding compliance can be directed to Tom Farris or Kristin Hoover Gentry.

IndigiPopX is for everyone, but respect for Indigenous identity, traditions, and sovereignty is required.

Anti-Harassment Policy

IndigiPopX is a safe space for fans of all backgrounds, including different cultures, genders, sexual orientations, abilities, and fandoms. Harassment in any form will not be tolerated.

Prohibited behaviors include, but are not limited to:

  • Physical assault, intimidation, or threats.

  • Verbal abuse, slurs, or hate speech.

  • Sexual harassment, stalking, or unwanted advances.

  • Unwanted physical contact of any kind.

  • Inappropriate or non-consensual media capture (photo, video, or audio).

Consent is key:

  • “No” means no.

  • “Stop” means stop.

  • “Go away” means go away.

Reporting:

  • If you experience or witness harassment, report it immediately to an IndigiPopX volunteer, staff member, or security personnel.

  • In emergencies, call 911.

  • Please do not take matters into your own hands or post incidents on social media before alerting staff. We are here to help and have professional security in place.

Consequences for violating this policy may include a warning, removal from the event, or a ban from future conventions.

Cosplay Policy

Cosplay is a big part of IndigiPopX! Please keep in mind this is a family-friendly event and we welcome attendees of all ages, including children and elders.

  • Costumes must maintain PG-appropriate coverage:

    • Sports bra-like coverage on top.

    • Leotard-type coverage on bottom.

    • No thongs, bare chests, see-through garments, or undergarments-as-costumes.

  • Shoes are required at all times.

  • Offensive, violent, or culturally insensitive costumes are not allowed.

  • Cosplay props must follow the Weapons & Prop Policy.

Weapons & Prop Policy

For the safety of all attendees:

  • No real or functional weapons are allowed.

  • Prop weapons must be clearly non-functional and safe.

  • Props that could cause injury will be evaluated by security on a case-by-case basis.

  • No projectiles, sharp edges, or explosive materials.

  • Safe props like wands, staffs, or foam shields are welcome.

Youth & Families

We love welcoming families to IPX! Please keep children safe and supervised at all times.

  • Children under 14 may not be left unattended.

  • Parents/guardians should set a meeting place in case of separation.

  • If a child is lost, notify a volunteer or staff member immediately.

  • No running in convention spaces—accidents happen quickly!

  • All children must wear shoes.
